Good news for the Philippines...bad news for Canada.
BPO company Convergys is moving work from Canada to the Philippines. Convergys announced that it will slowly transfer hundreds of call center jobs overseas.
The Convergys call center in Ottawa still employs about 600, but 400 of those jobs will move to the Philippines by mid April. The company will hold job fairs for employees facing termination to allow them to find work elsewhere.
The city of Ottawa is attempting to step in to try to keep the jobs in the city, but there is no word regarding the efficacy of their efforts.
